ACoP L8 + Managing the Risk of Legionella in Evaporative Cooling Systems

This course is aimed at dutyholders, which includes employers, those in control of premises and those with health and safety responsibilities for others, to help them comply with their legal duties. These include identifying and assessing sources of risk, preparing a scheme to prevent or control risk, implementing, managing and monitoring precautions, keeping records of precautions and appointing a manager responsible for others.

Validity of Award

5 years.

Pre-requisites

Be 18 years of age or older.

Assessment

  • Satisfactory completion of the course manual
  • Completion of end of course multi-choice paper consisting of 20 questions, the pass mark is 15

Revalidation

This course must be retaken every 5 years to update knowledge and demonstrate understanding.

  • Evaporative cooling systems: Types, design and operation
  • Requirements of a cooling water treatment programme
  • Inspection, cleaning and disinfection procedures
  • Monitoring water quality and understanding water treatment analytical reports
  • Action in the event of an outbreak of legionellosis
